Supermoon = Super Fishing?

…or will it Super Suck??

Going to find out tonight and try something a little different and not put in till about 11 PM and troll for a few hours. Just me and my grandson right now (and will probably be just me by then. lol), so if anyone wants to come out and give it a try just send me a PM.

We had an slow but steady morning with rain on and off. Fished 50-55fow with fish suspended anywhere between 25 to bottom. Caught 2 people limit by 11 am right before the big rain came onto us. Most if them keepers, 20-27 in fish. 3 biggest fish 25-27 in, came 2-3 cranks off bottom. All around Goat’s island. Have fun Tim, let us know how the night action is going. We need to get together sometime before summer is over for some night fishing.

Looking at the radar, if you didn’t cancel by now, you better get off the lake. Some rough stuff headed your way!

The fishing wasn’t Super and it didn’t Super Suck, but we did get Super Wet.

Met Bowhunter at the ramp about 11PM and while it was a steady light rain at the time, there didn’t appear to be ant lightning or thunder around, so we decided to go.

Things looked pretty good at first as we picked up our first fish in the first 10 minutes of trolling. We then missed a second shortly after that and then pulled the lines to pick up my grandson at the ramp. We headed back out and trolled another 3 hours or so and only picked up 3 more fish…all on the small side with only one that was obviously a legit keeper. Not long after heading back out the rain stopped and it turned out to be really comfortable out there. It was amazing how much visibility there was on the lake even with all that cloud cover. I believe I read this moon was 14% closer and 30% brighter than a normal full moon.

We marked plenty of fish on top of humps and suspended in 70-90 fow, which is where we caught them. Multiple humps in 50-60 fow were stacked with fish, but they were stagnant, “demo mode” looking marks on the FF and we couldn’t get them to eat.

All in all a great time on the lake catching a few fish and had some good laughs listening to AM Coast To Coast.

Host: “And now we go to Lucifer in Colorado”
Caller: “Please allow me to introduce myself
I’m a man of wealth and taste
I’ve been around for a long, long year…”

Followed by guest “Dr Whatever”, who is currently doing in depth research on people that have received telephone calls from the dead. Funniest was the caller who had received a call from her dead ex, which she thought was REALLY ODD…because he never had her new number!!

That’s a great view on the FF! Gonna try my luck Thursday evening after work with a buddy of mine probably around Spence.

I went last night with my brother-in-law and we got out around 7. We stayed in river channel and picked up 5 fish by 11:30. Only one short and the rest between 22"-26". All bites came at 40’ and nowhere else. We were downrodding with the light. Had millions of herring under the boat and marked fish everywhere. They just didn’t want to bite real well.

It was real bright out even though it was cloudy, which made for a relaxing and comfortable night.

Tigerfin, did the herring work their way up to be visible in the water or just on the FF? Did you try to catch any?

You could see a few every now and then as they would dart past the light. One time I pulled it up right beside the boat and they came up close enough to catch some, but we never tried. There were some boats at the towers with white lights and one of those guys was catching some with a cast net every now and then. It took a while for the herring to find the light, but once they did the ff was full to about 15-20’ down.

You have got to really love fishing to go when we did and with the weather conditions we had that night. It was fun, I learned something new, and I just look at it as another adventure. I’ve had quite a few of them in my life. Like the time last summer that a friend and I took his 20’ bay boat offshore 10 miles to fish a wreck for Black Sea Bass…at night. Don’t say it, I already know.
That night with Tim was also the 1 year anniversary of my accident where I fell out of my boat, spent 5 days in the hospital, and almost 6 months of recovery.

Striperskiff, what kind & model electronics are you using in the picture? I’m getting my boat set up & need to replace my Garmin. Thanks!

If you don’t mind me asking, what lures do most of you guys troll with? I have a downrigger and was thinking about trying it in the next week or so if I get the chance to go.

For me, at night I pretty much always use Rapala Slivers, but people use all kinds of plugs. Something in the 6" - 8" range should be good. The big Grandma plugs are real popular to pull at night with people looking for a big fish.

I don’t troll much during daylight hours, but when I do, I normally pull something like a 6" Rapala/Rebel or a 1oz bucktail with a swim bait.
