Hey All,
Some men from church are going to the south end of Folly at County Park to do some surf fishing. Mostly newbies. Can anyone offer any suggestions for fishing out there. I’m guessing it will be crowded with warmer weather. We plan to fish the incoming tide starting around noon. Seems like the water stays pretty shallow out there. Just wondering if we are better to fish near the mouth of the inlet, all the way around into the inlet, or away from the inlet in the surf. Any advice would be appreciated!

I am curious to see your results. I will be surf fishing from Edisto next week. Please post your results. Good luck.

Might want to go to the Surf Fishing Discussion section versus the Fishing Discussion, should be lots of info there.
If you hit the beach just before low tide, find the trough, it will be there. Stay north of the rock groing. Fresh shrimp pieces, small hooks, tight lines. And you don’t have to cast to Bermuda, we have a lot of fish right here in South Carolina.
( funny? ). For sure Whiting should bite. Roll the dice on anything else. Blue fish are thick at IOP right now.
Good Luck!
Use a carolina rig (google) or typical double hook rig with the triangle sinkers, cast out just past the breakers, with good fresh shrimp, catch some 12" croakers or such. Cut up the 12" croaker in to steaks, use a BIGGER CAROLINA RIG with 4/0 circle hook and throw the cut bait out to the breakers. The cut bait will bring in reds or sharks or ?? but sho bird will get you bigger fishy’s.
Thanks for the great tips Dilly and dparker.

you need to let us know how ya did
Horrible day as far as fishing goes. Still had a blast on the beach. Missed a couple bites, but pretty much nothing. Even hit the troughs once the tide came in. Was out there 6 hours but really only fished a couple hours. Sure would like some whiting or something for the frying pan. How’d everyone else do this weekend? Is it picking up any from shore anywhere?

Fishing vs Catching… hmmmmmm
The beach renourishment project has the surf fishing all screwed up on folly to much turbidity.
Don’t let the muddy water discourage you. The fish are still there, you just gotta hunt for them. Best to find spots at low tide. I tend to pack lite so I can move quickly. Carry one rod not 2, keep bait in your pocket, ditch the chair, ( I am almost 50 and rarely sit while surf fishing) figure out where the deepest holes are, the fish WILL be there. If a spot doesn’t produce in 30-40 min. I will move up or down the beach 50-100 paces or so Towards better looking water.
Most importantly it is fishing not catching.
