Survived the Storm!

This was the second trip in our recently completed project. We converted a duck hunting boat into a redfish slaying skiff and decided to take it out Sunday. We made a 20 minute run out into the wild and found them lounging in 5" of water. Managed two (only have a picture for one of them) before we got caught right in the MIDDLE of the storm. Was one of the craziest boating experiences of my life…lightning striking 30 yds. away, feeling the thunder rattle the boat, rain so thick you couldn’t see an inch in front of you, and a pitch black sky…I was prayin’ the entire time haha. We managed to take shelter on a small island near IOP and waited the storm out. We even made a fire to keep warm! The sky and water was absolutely stunning afterwards though. Definitely a trip I will never forget.

Im comin in hot for the photo bomb in this one haha. Decided to get out of the boat to chase some way back in the creek we were fishing and ran back once we were hooked up

Nice red! I would like to see some pics of the skiff as well.

Nice fish. How big was the fat hog? Looks like a fun project on your hands…

Keep your lines tight and remember. Respect the fish and your fellow fisherman. Know the Code.

It weighed 10 lbs on the boga. There was about 4 or 5 this size gorging on fiddlers in a small creek mouth so I imagine that’s what’s in it’s stomach.

looks like it would fun to fish from.

I’m not a fan of the lightning… In direct hit once and now I stay home on questionable days. Nice fish!

Nice work in the skinny. Some friends and I got caught in a nasty storm early last summer out by Kiawah and Stono Inlet. Inlet gets snotty fast with no visibility! Lightning was way too close for comfort and the deluge of rain we stood in was ridiculous. NEVER want to do that again. We were watching radar closely and appeared that it was going to slide by us but just as it was passing it literally blew up in size and turned back on us. One of those lessons learned the hard way! Unfortunately our lesson didn’t include catching fatties!

Haha now that’s surviving the storm! Since the weatherman had been pretty much wrong the entire week on lightening storms we decided to head out. Funny thing was when we saw It in the distance, it didn’t look like much so we were planning on dodging it to continue fishing. Next thing you know we look on the radar (on iPhone) and a massive red band is hovering about 5 minutes away. We were hooked up when we saw this so continued to fight the fish. After we got it to the boat and released it, we were face to face with a massive black wall. Was definitely a fun experience though!
