Suzuki 115 or140

About narrowed down my next boat to being a Carolina skiff Ls21. Can get a115 Suzuki or not terribly much more money 140hp… looking at specs seems to be the same motor, just turning a few more rpms…is it worth the extra money if I only see 2 or 3 mph? Am I missing something here? The 150 is a whole different beast an I dont want to spend the extra for that. Any recommendations?

I have never heard anyone say they wish they had less horsepower …

Spend the extra on the 150.

Always go for the max horsepower for what the boat is rated for. Less strain on the motor. Just my opinion.

I’m with PK on this one and 7Cs. A 21’ boat needs 150HP, once you buy it it’s too late. Lot of people buy a boat and it performs fine with the smaller motor with you and the salesman in the boat and saves initial cost, then load up the cooler, gear and the family and maybe a friend. Now you get embarrassed. My opinion for what it’s worth.

I definitely agree but the 150 not gonna happen, just more than I want to spend. The 140 most likely be what I get. Just thinking since same engine series would midrange power be the same? If only gain 2 mph and basically from the higher rpm the eco allows, maybe not worth it??

Look at the HP specs between the 140 and 150. If I recall the 140 is less than 140 and the 150 is more than 150. Different blocks. The 150 Suzuki is a whole different motor than the 140. There seem to be deals on the 140 all the time. Try to make the 150 work if possible.

Think about getting the 19ft model with the 140

Yamaha F150 is like 162-3 HP. Just saying. And super reliable.

Chris V should be along with some well known facts.

Yamahas cost much more than Suzuki’s. The gentleman is managing to his budget. Or did you miss that?

im never going to recommend anyone buying a suzuki, but if you are forcing me to choose between the suzuki 140 and suzuki 115, I would not buy the 140, as it only puts out 128 horsepower, and I dont see the change in performance worth the additional cost.

I think that’s hilarious. Y’all twisted his arm and got him to comment on the Suzuki.

PK, just noticed your remark. Seems I may have provided some valuable info. If I was asking questions such as his, I would certainly appreciate it. NO??

To address the OP’s question, best to figure out what you will be happy with no regrets. Being patient is important, as you could get the 115 and regret it. Get the 150 yammy, plenty of power and resale value.

Good luck and make sure first.

Well pulled trigger on the 140…I love Yamaha…had a f250 and loved it…but Suzuki had awesome rebate and was the only choice at this dealer which gives excellent service… I had a friend with 218 doc with 115 and did great. The new LS adds 400 lbs I think so that’s why I’d spend an extra $1000 on it… pick up in a week so see how it does.

Chris, just curious, what’s the “problem” with Suzukis?

"Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It's Hand", but really, who cares?

I some time fish with a guy with a 140 and it sure lacks enough power for a hole shot I have to move to the bow to get it going he is looking to move to a 200 soon and put the 140 on a john boat where it belongs! I also have a buddy with the 115 that is the same way with a smaller boat he’s upgrading to a 150. I highly recomend to get the highest HP the plate will let you run. I run a 250 on my 23 cc, 2 350 on my 28 a 200 on my 20’ a 115 on my 17 wailer and a 25 on my j16. good luck!
