Suzuki 225/250 and Yamaha 225

Looking at some used boats with 2007-2010 Suzuki and Yamaha 225-250’s. Any known reliability on these other than the corrosion issues with some of the Yamaha 225s? I’ve read about that one.

Who services Suzuki in Charleston area?

I believe Hanckel Marine in West Ashley services Suzuki. They’ve given me quotes on servicing both of my motors in the past.

most shops including us at Charleston marine will service and repair Suzuki as well as most all other brands of outboards.
I think butler marine is the only dealer left in town

Suzuki makes a great motor. I would go with the df250. Besides the corrosion issue, the Yamaha 225 is a dog. Closer to 200 HP than 225

My Suzuki 225’s are screamers. Boat does a tad over 60 now. They are quiet and efficient. Butler Marine rigged them and did an outstanding job.

both brands are great on the dependable side but i have seen a lot of suzukis with major corrosion issues, they seem to eat from the inside out on the exhaust. The good thing is the welding shops have seen so many they know exactly what to do to patch them. i have only seen one yamaha 225 with corrosion issues so bad that the motor was junked but i know the owner and it NEVER saw a drop of fresh water and was kept in the water.
