Suzuki Comments

No real price difference. Actually I’ve been told the zukes are a little more pricey tham Yamahas. I went with Suzuki for the (relatively) lighter weight and the fact that they are narrower than Yamahas. My Armstrong bracket is only about 7 feet wide (give or take) and width becomes an issue.I also like the advantages of a timing chain vs a timing belt and the larger prop size on the Suzukis. In regards to some of the “nay” inputs I understand their feelings. I personally will never own another OMC product for many of the same reasons.

timing chain is definately a plus, which is one of the reasons I said they make a great motor
hope they work great for you

Does that out weigh the corrosion issues? Or the bucket and shim valve adjustments? Or the use of dissimilar metals?

Good report Chris V, as usual; You have heard my story, 13 probably hasn’t. I have only owned older used Zuki’s, no warranty; BEST reliability of any of my 7 or so ourboards. Parts were no more of a problem than Yammy, not as good as 'rude or Merc. I had terrible corrosion problems with my Yammy’s, and they WERE new with warranty. My old Zuki’s didn’t corrode nearly as bad as my new Yammy’s, BUT they all have + & minus. One warning, Zuki’s MUST be kept tuned well, as they are balanced engines I have heard, not sure. I do know new plugs are VERY important in starting and idling on Zuki’s…Good luck…

Thanks for all of the input, pro and con. I guess anything mechanical that gets placed in salt water is gonna rust, crust, or bust over time, even with diligent maintenance.Purposeone, I guess you feel the same way about zukes as I do about OMC. I’ll keep a close eye on the pitfalls you have pointed out.

great motors until you need warranty work. my 115 4 stoke needed warranty work and they refused comming up with all types of reasons it was not thier falt. thank goodness state farm stepped in and paid the 8700.00 bill.

I had 03 twin 115 zuks a couple of boats ago, and loved the motors. Never had an issue with them.

John at Hanckle stocks suzuki parts, at much better prices than the large suzuki dealer out of NC.

Hope you enjoy them.

From what I am reading the vast majority loves the motors but hates the customer service when warantee work needs to be done. One would think that the company would clue in and step up to the plate.I have never owned a motor that was waranteed anyway and have always had to pony up the $$ for popped powerheads on the POS OMC’s that I have dealt with for 12 years. I guess I should have remembered my prior experience with OMC’s when I was in the Coast Guard ( power heads popped often) before I bought my boat.Caveat emptore(let the buyer beware).
