Yesterday we fished all morning, boat ran fine. Toward the end of the day after idling through a no wake zone, throttled up to get on plane, engine stumbled and died. Would turn over but not even try to start. Had to get towed back.
I’m thinking it’s the fuel pump, but not sure. Any suggestions on where to start?
Changed the fuel filter water separator last week.
Thanks
I had an issue with my 07 150 Zuke last summer one day did something similar where bogged down while on plane hard to the point I thought I hit some thing. It got worse over the next 20 min to the point I was barely ample to limp back to the dock. Turned out there is an issued with an internal fuel line in “older” model Suzuki four strokes. It is a horse shoe shaped line and eventually over time will collapse on its self choking the fuel off to the motor creating that stumbling/choking off. Kid at the shop put in a new line for a new model Suzuki and it worked like a charm and want nearly as costly repair as I had expected…just my 2c
I doubt its a fuel “pump”, but its most likely fuel related
I was able to check the boat out today. I couldn’t find any fuel leaks or smell any. There’s a little canister on the rear of the engine about the size of a medicine bottle. I could see that there was only about an inch of fuel in it. I drained it. Cycled the key a few times it stated up and ran fine. Idled for 30 minutes revved it a few times. All seems good.
Should that canister stay full?
Any ideas?
I wish I would’ve found a problem to fix. I don’t want it to happen next time I take it out.
Thanks
it wont stay full, but should have fuel cycling through as the needle valve in the VST opens and closes with fuel use.
under load it uses fuel at a much higher rate than you can duplicate on the hose
I frequently have to clean the screen on the bottom of the fuel pump that sits in the VST… Thanks to Chris V… It’s really easy to get gunked up…

Thanks for the help. I’ll clean the screen.
DF150’s have a computer too, go to a Suzuki outfit and get them to read the code. I use a Suzuki mechanic in Chapin SC that is fantastic… if you are nearby, pm me for his number
