June 29, 2019 - We head out with Jason on his new 28ft Scout to rid the skunk and load the boat with fish. We set course towards the SW Banks and set out lines at 8:00am. We picked at the peanut size dolphin until a nice bull came along and went through the spread, swallowing a Black Bart Tuna Candy https://amzn.to/2LC7wRh and then ended up hooked in the head on the outrigger bait. Jason installed a sub woofer in the boat and it seemed to raise fish. Whenever they would play rap music, marlin would start free jumping. We got surprised when something attacked the dredge https://amzn.to/2RSfNld and moved the boat. We are still not sure if was a marlin or a shark. Tommy got on several mahi with the Van Staal and Topwater Mirrolure https://amzn.to/2RGkyhq. We trolled for wahoo down the ledge with no luck. When we packed up to go home we lost the lower end on the port motor. It took 9 hours to home…arriving at 12:30am. All in all it was a great day.

Nice. From your still photo that dredge fish looks like a mako.

I thought it looked like a mako - the tail and the color with the white down low
Here’s hoping your lower end doesn’t hurt too much.
29 June we were at the ledge towards the 380 hole off Charleston. We also had a very large fish attack a large yellow green artificial lure. Captain Wayne witnesses the aggressive assault. Line peeled off the 80w like we had hooked the sea buoy. Few seconds later nothing. Then we all saw the monster attack again for a few seconds before it let go again. With the same talent as most of the fish that day he somehow avoided the laser sharp hooks. Afterwards our conversation ended with consensus that the big blue fish with sail like dorsal and impressive tail must have been a mako. What other fish with that description would be so aggressive. Seeing your photo confirms to me that we must have both been introduced to the same fish.
Suggest to use the freshwater washdown instead of taking a swim if you get hot out there !!
We hooked a mako on a purple yozuri bonita last year on the ledge. 50 International peeled line like it was being casted. Looked back and saw a mako do about a dozen flips before it broke us off. Only had about 6 feet of wire. Nobody ever touched the rod.
