SW BANKS AND BOTTOM FISHING

Left my house at 5am with my friends Sells, Nick, and Braden, and were greeted with very calm seas and cruised to SW Banks in my 234 Sea Hunt Ultra at 30knts. Had lines in the water by 7 and trolled over nice bottom marking tons of fish throughout the column. Marked blackfin everywhere but they did not want breakfast. We had 8 lines in the water and anxiously awaited the Chinese Firedrill. Trolled until about 11 with no luck, so we stowed away the trolling gear and went to hit bottom in a few spots on the ledge and promptly boated Braden’s first Grouper, a nice Gag.

He was so excited until he was informed by Sells that we couldn’t keep it. Paul vented it and put it back but it wasn’t swimming. Spent about 15 mins trying to revive it and finally Sells Hooked it with a Sabiki and a 20 oz. weight and sent him to the bottom where he came to life again. Caught a dozen of the newest member on the endangered species list, the ARS. In fact, Nick caught two at one time.

Had a 14 ft Tiger stalking us for a bit, then a 12ft hammerhead moved in. Pulled lines in at 6 and ran 35 back to the hill. Beautiful day.

20 B-liners, threw back at least that many
20 BSB, biggest one was a 17" hoss. Threw many back.
1 Gag, successfully released
1 Scamp, successfully released
A ton of all the other bottom dwellers

The dude in the blue “Sellsfish” shirt was one of the speakers at the Saltwater Seminar I attended in Columbia. He definitely knows his stuff. I took notes like a mad man when he was talking.
Great report - sounds like ya’ll had a good time and nice weather to boot!

Thanks for the report! Too bad about the groupers, I know that is a heartbreaker.

Did Paul leave his beard on the hill?!?

Thanks for the report, headed there tomorrow.

Congrats on a great day guys. Glad to see you brought home some fish! That’s a good day right there.

BTW, that guy in the blue shirt is wearing his namesake. LOL!

One of the very few who can back up his talk! If you want to ride with us one day I will reserve a spot for you. Just chip in for fuel, ice, and bait. I promise you will go home tired as hell.

The Dude in the Blue Shirt, needs some fish to eat! He’s lookin kind of puny nowadays:smiley:
