SW Banks on Black Friday

While everyone else is shopping around town. Myself and some friends are planning to head out the SW Banks and troll for some Wahoo and Tuna. Heard they are hitting pretty good out there right now. Anyone been in the past week or so?

Heading that way also Friday AM

Friend of mine went last Saturday and did decent on the tuna. Didn’t get to put any hoos on the deck though, hopefully you will have better luck.

Typically they start to stack up this time of year out on the temp changes and the Cuda’s should of thinned out by now also and bonitas should be in closer which will help if your not high speeding. What speeds do you plan to troll my buddy likes 10 or 11, most of my experience is at around 8 and went high speed 13-18 a few times. He says 10 or 11 gets him more tuna and hoos, at 8 we get a whole mix of fish and the only things that hit high speed where the hoo.

Are using KPH or MPH as a reference for those trolling speeds? I have found it difficult to get the baits deep enough when trolling above 6 knots or so.

I’ve never asked him if he means knots or miles I go by mph. I’ve always figured 10 knots is like 11.5 miles per hour, so current, wind direction and waves usually makes you adjust that much so I just thought of them as good generals. He uses trolling weights for deep big baits and runs some big deep diving hard baits like Halcos, Raps and yozuri’s as well, but says you got to watch them because they washout easier at 10 and 11. He runs some feathers, jets, bullets and witches up top and pretty commonly gets a hoo on them.

We will probably mix it up. Start off with a few corks at 6 to 8 knots then switch up to some ballyhoo and feathers at 12 to 14. Just praying the weather holds true and the seas are what they’re calling for.
