SW Banks

Went out to the banks yesterday on my second trip offshore. We started out trolling and only got one mahi and a little tunny. Started catching baraccuda’s so we went to the sw banks. Caught some giant BSB’s, some vermillian snapper, trigger’s and a variety of Porgy’s. Ended the day with a reef donkey. Every strike we had with the Mahi they took half our ballyhoo. Had medium, next time I’ll get smalls. Also got a little grouper it was a red hind, very good looking fish. New to offshore, was wondering if it’s still worth going after the Mahi?

Sorry to say, but alot of those short strikes were probably cuda’s.

danaf01, a good piece of advice I got from those on this forum is also put on a shorter skirt on the smaller ballyhoo. Cut them or whatever. That seems to help with the short strikes.

Drop the bait on short strikes.
If it’s a Mahi he will circle and hit the bait again.
