We (Jim, Keene, Tommy and Derek) departed The Bristol at about 3:45 with our Roffs report in hand. It directed us towards Edisto Banks and the a troll line to the Little Ammo Dump. The ride out was bumpy and a little wet.
We had lines in the water around 6:45. Almost immediately, we had two hard knock downs which we fought for a minute or two before they broke off. We were able to get the skunk out of the boat for the day with a smallish barracuda. We then went three hours with so much as weed on a line. During that time, we did not see ONE other boat. We were cussing the Roffs while hearing others on 68 starting to catch fish. ARound 12:00, we had a BIG knock down. We gave Keene the rod and he brought home what turned out to be the biggest Wahoo we had ever seen! We have no idea of the weight but suspect it was 85-90 pounds. It was over 5’ long. I will post the picture.
At that point we were happy enough to call it a day. We then started troll in the direction of home. At about 1:00, we had a massive knock down. In no time it brought the reel down to the backing…we tuned around to start towards the fish at 6 or 7 knots. After a three hour fright, Derek had an 200-250 pound blue marlin at the boat. We do not have a fighting chair or a harness. This was pure stand up fishing!
So, while we were not much for quantity we made up with quality. It was the first big Wahoo and the first bill fish for both the boat and for a couple people on the boat.
It was a great day as we tied up back at the marina at 6:30. Thanks to everyone for a great day. Special thanks to Keene for setting the strategy and running all of the lines.
