We saw the conditions on Sat/Sun and decided to do another overnight trip. Started off catching bait and running into a who’s who of CF’ers at the buoy. That Freeman sure is a pretty boat (I need a new hat). Ran out and caught 6378 AJ’s and small dusky sharks! We could not get lucky on a grouper all day! We could see the fish on the scope, but they had lockjaw! We did catch the regular pinks and B-liners. We pushed out deep before dusk and got treated to watching a sail and a blue eating 12" blackfin in 1300’ of water on an incredible rip. We made 5 drifts for Sword and did not get a bite until 2:45am and it was on! Dave fought the hell out of a large sword and we chased the fish all over the ocean. It looked like a police car with the disco strobe just under the surface running away from us. We managed to get the fish 40’ from the boat and it decided to sound and go into very violent head shakes. Then it was gone! line was fine, never gave it slack…just gone! Oh well win a few and lose a few, Malcolm will swear it was because I left the hydroglow light in the back seat of the truck. It just makes it that much more of a desire to get back out and do it again. Great crew with Dave and Malcolm and even Quincy (Black Angus) made the trip with us. I wish we had gotten video of the billfish eating bait on that rip…pretty awesome!
