Swivels and Snaps

In an earlier thread, there was discussion about attaching a fluorocarbon leader to braid with a knot or a swivel. Personally, I use a knot, but I do use a swivel to attach my plastics and plugs to the leader.
What are your thoughts on using a snap or a swivel to attach baits to your leader.

My thoughts - Don’t use cheap snaps & swivels. I’ve had them break at a bad time. I don’t like the swivel to be close to the bait -

The ones I use aren’t cheap. I use a twist lock swivel. Size 14 is very small and rated at 22 lb test. I do a lot of wade fishing. It is so easy to change bait with those quick twist lock swivels. Also, I’m not constantly cutting my fluorocarbon leader, which would necessitate retying the leader. When wading, quick and easy are important to me. I’ve never had one fail.

I’ll use “hardware” on live/cut bait rigs (Sampo or Spro) but not on my artificial rigs.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

I don’t trust knots for more than 1 day of fishing, if it is a tournament those knots are changed several times through the day.
Once you add a swivel with clip you are no longer changing the weakest point, the knot. It becomes to easy to just switch bait without retying.

For that reason I do not use snap swivels.
