Sword fishing Charleston coming from miami help

hi everyone,

my name is thomas , currently have been working on a boat out of miami for 11 years, and now have the opportunity to come up and fish out of Charleston and was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance on the sword fishing , down here we fish the drop off in 14-2000 feet and fish some structure wether it is holes or hills. would like to come up and daytime for them. does anyone have some info they wouldn’t mind sharing, i am not asking for numbers just need to be in the general area so i can get it figured out.

Thank you
Thomas sims

It seems as though who do fish for them in the daytime don’t really talk about it much.

From what I’ve gathered you deep drop a good ledge in over 1000ft with 1200 to 1800 being commonly heard numbers. I had good info on it I found on the web, so its out there. But that computer died so I lost all info and can’t remember link. The paper with the best info was a college report from a student studying bathometry that sourced their work from many people and places and had all the base information in one place with good details.

Tom Fish All Day,
Are you working on a boat here to commercially fish? As you have seen, the distance to run to sword grounds here vs Miami is very different. That difference translates to a significant cost and risk difference. Just like in Miami or anywhere else, you get good at what you are doing by doing it, studying it, doing it, studying more, and doing it more. All this involves time which= Money. If you have been doing it in Miami for years, then you should buy a map for our area and figure out pretty quickly where to go. Beyond that, it is time, risk, and money spent out there until you dial it in…just like any other fishery.

Your question above is the continual internet “hand out” question that many people ask. If you put your time in you will have it figured out. The fish move through essentially the same water depth and area as down in Miami , so the rest should be easy for you.

No hard feelings here, just honest truth of the situation. Good luck post a real report in this “Offshore Reports” area when you go

Hollywood Hills is a pretty good spot. I would check it out.

it 90-100 mile run out of sc to 1200-1700ft

It's 75 + miles to the south ledge out of savannah...160ft...another 5+ miles to the 100 fathom curve. I carry a fuel barge with me. 200 gallons on a 25ft Bertram.

All the Florida fish are gone so come get ours…ha…(**().

I dont think there gone probably someone is fighting one riggt now.

Hey tom, ill be in Miami for some work next week. Im thinking of going on one of Kelley Fleets head boats for a drift fish and a night fish. are there any particular jigs or lures you recommend to bring?

Last time I was out we fished the South West Bank and hit on a sail 15 mins after dropping lines in. Several boats out there that day hit on sails.

There is a big difference on catching sails to swordfish.
