Tach/Compass Location

I am in the process of adding some gauges to my console. According to the Faria website, a Tach should not be placed closer than 18" to a compass. Why is this? My console is not setup so that I can get the 2 more than 18" away from each other. What to do, any suggestions?

Not sure but what say it has something to do with the compass magnetic field? I have never heard that and in fact, on my console the tach is only about 14 inches from the compass

Get the tach or electronics as far away as possible and note any magnetic variation to your compass by comparing it with another compass held a few feet away. If your console hasn’t already been cut out for a flush-mount compass, you can mount one on the gimbal type mounts and it usually won’t suffer from interference from any gauges below.
