Tackle Question

I need to upgrade my rods and reels. I have used cheap rods and reels for too long and am tired of constantly fixing them, rods breaking, etc. I am looking for recommendations for good rods and reels that can be bought for $100 or so. Thanks!

get you a shimano combo. you can find one for 100 bucks and they make good stuff. May be a shimano clarus rod with a shimano sienna reel.

Shakespeare has some really good rods in the "less expensive’ range too. Not just the Uglystick.

St Croix Rods!

I’ve been happy with Penn reels and they have some different price points. I have a couple of the SSGs and the new Battle. For my most recent rod purchase, I went with a Star rod at the recommendation of the Hadrell’s guys and very pleased with it. The warranty return policy was the reason for push in that direction. There are a ton of options and opinions. If you’re near a Hadrell’s or a Charleston Angler, stop in and talk to them about what you’re fishing for and what you liked/disliked about previous equipment. They’ll point you in the right direction for your money.

Recently had a similar post. Most folks recommended the Star Stellar lite or Shimano. I went with the Star and got the Penn Battle. Now my favorite combo. I have a Substain on a shimano Calaus rod and for half the cost you can’t tell the difference! My 02 cents worth.
