Depends on where im at when I need tackle. Both are great stores! both stores are active in supporting our fisheries and do a really (**() good job at it!

I bought my first ever saltwater item at their old location 15 years ago when I lived in Mt. P. Very nice people. They kind of got shafted by eminent domain and now it is a challenge to get in and out of there. Still wonderful people, though. Just never mention eminent domain around Henry!
Unfortunately, I have a CA 1/4 mile from my house. THAT gets expensive! LOL! Great people there and have always had good Haddrell’s experiences also. Can’t go wrong with either, and I’m sure Mr & Mrs. Henry will do you just fine also.

Haddrell’s West Ashley is the best. I have never had good service from The Charleston Angler and I will never support them. but go make the decision for yourself.
Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.
Keep it local! Those of you who know me know that I am pretty partial to HPWA(for a pretty good reason:wink:), but most importantly keep it local.
I second REELHUNTER!! Hadderals West Ashley Scott,Dee,Darryl, all the ppl in there is great. Scott set me up with some great tackle this year and we caught a huge Blue (500+ lbs) Got to give credit where credit is due!! Thanks to all these guys for everything they do.I swing by at least once or twice a week even if I am not fishing just to say hey and shoot the s%@$!!! Great company always in there!!! Thanks HPWA!!!

Haddrell’s Point…Mike Abel and his staff, including wife and sons, are true Southern treasure’s. Mike has been an advocate for the saltwater sportsman/woman for as long as he has been in business. He puts in many personal hours talking to congressmen and senators, writting op-ed pieces, and speaking on all our behalf. That is what seperates the “wheat from the chaff”, and that is why I’ll spend my money with Mike!!
Apparently, we Chas. Angler fans are not as vociferous as the Haddrells fans. But, I’ve always been happy with the guys at Chas. Angler. Knowledgeable. Friendly. 'Seem to have more fly fishing expertise… but, don’t lack in other areas, at all.
I’m sure Haddrells and others are fine.

Mr. Oliver over at the West Ashley Haddrell’s is one of the more helpful folks I have met in quite some time. Chas Angler is decent, but they never seem to be as helpful and interested as the guys at Haddrells.

A little partial to Haddrells West for a broad selection from freshwater to offshore and anywhere in between, but never hesitate to call on Josh, Johnathan, or Bart over at the angler with any fly fishing questions and they are always more than helpful to answer any questions.

Haddrells has taken care of my needs since the day they opened! The whole gang there is top quality and are quick to order anything you need that is not in stock. One of them can always give you a tip on the current bite and bait. And, for us vertically challenged, young Mike Able can reach ANYTHING you need from the top shelf!
I shop both and like both. Was kind of surprised last Sunday however when I went in to buy some live shrimp and mud minnows in the morning at Haddrells WA and they had none. Seems like this time of year on the weekend that they would not be out of both. They told me where I could go buy some however, The Chas Angler on 61.

Either Haddrell’s is great, Charleston angler is catching up. The Summerville store is great, have some great guys working rod and reels also.
These stores beat the Bass Pro Shop and Cabela’s as far as prices go.
Plus you get free advice and some great seminars.
Support these stores.
Avoid Summerville Chas. Angler at all cost especially for rod and reel repair. I took 2 rods there and had to go find them myself after more than a month. The kid that was looking for them was clueless, after 3 trips to the back I saw my rod standing in a corner. It was repaired 3 weeks earlier but they never called like they said they would. Now, I know a guy that dropped off a very expensive reeel to be cleaned, went to pick it up and they tried to give him a cheap four ball bearing version, It’s a different color than his but the geniuses working the counter said “maybe the color came off when it was cleaned” They are still “looking” for his reel and said they would call him. My bet is no call! Avoid Charleston Angler.
