Tag a long 7/28

Fished 325 to 420 line 220-700’. One slob cow, one slinger, lost more dodos and a couple wahoos. Fought 300+ lb tiger shark for an hour and a half. He had about a dozen friends around as well. Found this thing dead on the surface…

I believe it’s called an Opah. Amazing colors, even when dead. Much thanks to Reel Jim for letting us get in behind you in the aforementioned storm. Getting hailed on in 50 kt gusts in a center console sucks.

Interesting find! I will have to do some research on that fish. Ive never seen or heard of one. Good job on the Hoo’s.

Back again. Done my homework. Tag a long, it looks as if your identification is correct. They are also called Moonfish (Lampris regius) The average weight is 60 to 200 lbs. They do not school and are usually caught on longlines around Hawaii. These pelagic wandering species are found in the company of tunas and billfish. Very interesting find. I bet with all its colors. it could have made a cool mount.

And you must have had a sister that left the door unlocked when she showered. You're sick.

Visiting Huntington Beach, CA last November, I had dinner at a local seafood joint and the special was Opah and Onah. I’m told Onah is pacific for wahoo and Opah is moonfish found mostly near Hawaii, so my surfer dude waiter was correct. And they are tasty.

Cool lookng fish. Someone else must of caught it and returned it to the water after taking pictures of it. Should let the authorites know.

Just got off the phone with Mel Bell of SCDNR. He has never seen nor heard a report of an Oprah off our coast. He is going to pass on the pics and get back with me.

I’m suprised the tiger’s didn’t eat the vag fish!

Weird fish, funny how people are catching snook and now this moon fish in SC waters. Skinny, your killin’ me!

Excellent eating, just got back from fishing in Kona HA and had that a couple of times, very tasty
