On 2/20/2013 I caught a red fish that measured 34" and 14lbs. That same red fish was first caught and tagged on 10/16/2009 it measured at 22.5". It had been caught three times before me. I caught the fish 13.5 miles away from it was first tagged. The fish has been at large 1223 days and still tagged and free today. Wanted to give a great shout out to the Department of Natural resources for such a great program.
Cool stuff. One thing people need to know is leave the tag in the fish. You still get your T-shirt by providing the tag#.
Out of curiousity did you go to the left or right as you come out of shem creek? And what general location was the fish first tagged in? Wonder how far the fish that are tagged in Grice Cove have moved thru the years. I know The cove itself has changed dramatically
Fritz I caught this fish down by goat island. It was tagged in Fosters creek in the Wando back in 09. Yes it is very important to leave the tag. That’s why that fish is on my deck I had to scrape growth off to even get to the number.
What a great report. Thanks for gathering the information and letting the rest of us know the history. Question to anyone: at 34" isn’t that big ole fish about ready to leave the “inshore” and head for the ocean?
Neat. Thanks for sharing and it is a cool program. Nice to get one that size in-shore to have such a record. He’s definitely ready for the depths if he chooses.

Should be in the next year. That fish was likely two years old at first tagging (10/2009), so it’s probably around 5.5 now. Most join the offshore population from 4-6.
Ive only cauhgt 1 tagged fish in my life. This was a few years back. Didnt know it had atag untill I got it home. Then I misplassed the tag found it a good time later. Do yall think I still could get a Tshirt?
