Tail Race Saturday

Thinking of putting in @ the tailrace Sat and wondered how the run is to salt and what to look out for and what I might have some luck at. I have an 18 cc.

Went a couple weeks ago and got down to where the river takes a right before the bridge but had to turn around because of the weather. Also, what is good to fish for around that area and maybe a little more towards Charleston.

Thanks for any tips you may could provide.

I’ve made the trip before in a cc about that size. The trip is a breeze as long as you have a good map.
We ran into bad weather as well and sat under the bridge near Cypress Gardens for a couple if hours

I’ve run up to the lock from the salt side of Bushy in a 20ft CC. It’s a very nice run, it’s dredged the whole way. Stay in the channel until you are familiar with the area. Have a map/gps.
To me, saltwater starts at the power lines by the sandbar (great place to stop and cool off).

Tailrace to the Harbor is around 40 miles.

What bridge are you refering to?

Good places to fish, everywhere. If you want to cut the trip, use cypress garden or bushy park. The convergence of cypress garden and cooper is a good area.(where I grew up) Also the T’s, where the west and east split is a good fishing area. Most of the river, hour or so before low tide start fishing the mouths and inlets to the rice field back out to deep water. Fish them until the water gets deep enough for the fish to get in. The rest of the time fish structures or drift for catfish.

SLOW DOWN, the river can look EXACTLY like a rice field at high tide. You will regret making that mistake.
