Went Saturday morning with a buddy of mine and saw about 20 tailers in a couple hours. Most of them were bunched in a very small portion of the flat and were actively feeding but weren’t really interested in what we were tossing. Didn’t help that I hit a few in the head. Fortunately, landed a couple. Once the water came out of the grass used some live bait to get 6 more reds.
Went back Sunday to the same flat and also checked out a new area to me. The reds were tailing again but couldn’t get them to eat. Had several perfectly placed casts but no takers. I haven’t ever seen that many fish on back to back days and come away feeling a little disappointed. Still had fun though and would take that over work any day.
By the way, marsh chiggers are the devil. Going to have to start wearing pants out there.
Beautiful pictures!
If ya don’t mind me asking, what camera you using?
I have a 30D, but have never taken it with me on the flats. I’ve always thought about it, but didn’t want something happening to it.

you have to remember to use some watered down bleachor or any common houshold cleaner that has bleach in it…
spray your legs when you get home and let it sit for as long as you can stand it/couple minutes…

Just got a Canon 60D with a kit lens a few weeks ago and this is the first real experience I have had with it. I used to do some photo work in college with film and have had some point and shoot digital cameras. That being said, I’ve got a lot of stuff to learn. As for the camera itself, it’s everything I expected and want it to do but eventually I’d like to step up to something nicer, especially in the lens department.
The 30D you have is a pretty good camera. Mine is a few generations newer but you could easily get the same shots I did. The biggest key for any photographer is having a decent lens, which I don’t really have, and knowing how to use your gear.

Awesome! Yeah, I hear ya on the glass portion…gotta be top notch in that department. I’ve been doing photography for quite some time now (portraits, free lance, nature, wedding, babies, etc…)…I just never brought it with me on the flats. I’ve only taken my camera on a boat once <–which was a great day of pics, but also suffered a little ocean spray…eek!, but camera was fine. One day I’ll do it. Maybe leave the rod at home and take the camera. Or trail one of my buddies out on the flats and get some good pics.
Anyway, look forward to more great pics! Keep em coming!

I believe what we call ‘marsh chiggers’ are actually a parasite from a gastropod mollusk, the periwinkle. Got into em last year, itched like heck and still have marks from them on legs. Long pants and electrical tape for me now.
