Went to a lil walk in spot Thursday and figured I would try and get one on the fly. Got there pretty early but at least I thought to bring the shoulder cooler with a 6 pack in it. Once the water made it up the fish showed up in pretty good numbers. Now I’m not the best caster in the world and I tend to get “redfish fever” when I see one standing on its head. First fish I line it as well as the second. As I’m standing there cussing my self a fish literally does a flip 20ft to my right. Quick adjustment and I am hooked up. After a small 5 minute battle I lay hands on a pretty 20 inch red. I figured I had blown that end of the flat up and head back to the car. As I’m standing on the bank I see a fish swim past me at about 10 feet. I literally drop the fly straight down and he eats. I couldn’t believe it. A twin to the first. This was only the third time I’ve chased them this year and finally got not one but two into my hands.
Nice Smokey. I’ve been there and done that - dropping the fly right down like a cane pole. They are sometimes so oblivious to what going on around them that you can do this. Sounds like fun.
