So was up on a flat I found by the ICW and heard some splashes so I stand up and I see about four tailing Redfish so I try and catch them but they did not want anything I was offering. So I took this video I will be going back there and trying again.
That was more of a cruiser… They are kinda cruisin along looking for whatever they can eat. They can be tough to please at this time. As a fly fisherman I usually put a crab or shrimp pattern in front of them by about 3 feet and let them cruise up to it. Leading them properly and presenting them a tasty tidbit is the key. If you have some Z-Man scented crabs or gulp crabs I would try throwing those about 4 feet ahead of them in their path and see if that does it.
Talking to a new neighbor the other day he moved here from Texas. Some mullet were jumping in the pond across in street He said they are called Texas Skeet 12 gauge #8 shot works best
Maybe we could use a shotgun on the Tailing Reds that wont bite??
That is a cool shot of the fish. I am looing to go this weekend to where I have seen them more than once, maybe I will get lucky this time and get one in the kayak.
What if you stuck one that was under/over slot size?
I wondered about that too but I seem to remember hearing about bow hunting reds before.
I’m going to get the kayak out at dawn tomorrow but I’m not sure where I’ll go yet. Low tide fishing. It’s been near a month since I’ve gotten out. Jonesin’…
Bowfishing for Reds IS legal but if you do you better be dang sure it is a slot redfish and DNR isn’t anywhere near you. I asked a DNR Guy about it and he said it was legal but not advisable. Same deal as gigging… you CAN do it but if you stick an under or over slot fish and they catch you they will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law…
I am always amazed at you guys that get such great pics/videos. I am so excited when I see something like that I either try to catch it or stand and watch like a big dummy.
