I was out at the Ville yesterday… not a great tide but enought to flodd a couple flats… I got to the first one and stepped out of the boat and low and behold there was a good sized red tailing away bout 5 FEET AWAY…[:0] I froze and stood there not knowing what to do then he turns away and starts tailing away. I grabbed the fly rod out of the holder strip some line out and get a cast on him… he swam over the fly and didn’t eat… I was about to switch flies when he turned right at me and it was almost comical… I guess he finally saw me and almost broke himself in half trying to get away. I had a good laugh at that one… Seeing a red trying to go through his own butthole was pretty funny… I saw another tailer and I blew this one like a saturday night hooker… I dropped the fly directly, and centered mind you, on top of his head… if it was a harpoon I would have been set but as it was a fly he shot off the flat. A litle bit later I saw a nice sized tail pop up and another smaller one right next to him. I figured I had a shot at these two and put the sneak on 'em… I got all the way across the flat, set up and casted… about 4 feet ahead of them… I got my line straightened up real slow and waited… the little one spotted the fly first and started chugging across to it but the bigger one saw it to and came across the flat, back out of the water and shouldered the little one out of the way and sucked up my fly… sadly the leader snapped about .04 seconds into the fight and it swam off with my favorite fly… BTW… ScottyD… what was that fly you gave me??? It’s gone now All in all I had good shots at 4 fish and mostly did OK… I saw a ton of fish though… most were just hanging out and not eating though… Good day… My hands stopped shakin and my heart slowed to a normal beat about 20 minutes ago though
