I talked to a lot of people to get some info and watched the line. While fishing nobody caught a thing in the 2 hrs I was there and I would give it another week or 2 before went if I was really wanting to go. I’m not going back till march. A few people caught 1 or 2 in the last week. The water still seemed pretty cold and was supposed to be 51 but didn’t feel it. Most of the people I talked to agreed it was still to cold of water temps and that the run would be late this year.
Now for the funky stuff. On the way out I had a thought and a feeling like a mile from the landing that I would see a eagle. On the way back down I see a eagle in nearly the exact spot I had the thought and I dropped it down from wide open to take a pick since it had its winds spread out sitting on the bank. He started to fly before I could get the pic of him spread eagle but I did get a pick. I went to crank up and could not crank it up. I some how flooded the heck out of my engine which never happens when I drop from wide open like that. I tried for like 15 minutes to unflood it and everyone that past either gave me the look like do you want help and a few even stopped and asked. After i was confident I was gonna have to paddle back I took a tow from some nice guys. Thank you to y’all and to all who offered. At the landing there was a old timer and we chatted and he showed me some tricks to deflood your engine which saved me from thinking it was bad fuel and going through the carbs. He also told me about some spots and techniques and the way a cold year like this year effects the run. So I’m going back in march to some semi secret spots armed with a little more wisdom thanks to a generous old timer that was very nice. I’ve never had a feeling I was gonna see a eagle and the one time I do it leads to me basically breaking down and getting towed in. But on the other hand I gained some valuable info.
