I heard from a friend of a game warden that the shad were smoked this past weekend on the tailrace. Can anyone confirm this? It looks as though they are shutting the water off at 7:00AM and starting to release it again at around 2:00PM. Has anyone been in the afternoon? I’m planning on going Thursday. Going to go down on the Cooper first thing and try for some bass then stop by tailrace on my way back through and try for some shad. I will post my findings.

has anybody been catching any roe shad in the tail race conal
This may be a stupid question, but do people just catch the shad “JUST” for their roe? I ask because I am interested in aqquiring the rest to freeze and use for bait. I can not get out there at this time, so if anyone has and “extra”, let me know. Thanks!!

I fully understood your question. I personally like the shad meat better than the roe. Before I learned how to cook a shad, I would use the fish for bait and eat the roe. I’m sure that you could procure some shad meat by asking around.

Not a stupid question, and yes, I catch them only for bait for the rest of the summer. I could care less about the roe. May be good, don’t know, I have issues with eating “bait”. If you need a couple, PM me and I’ll give you a few.
