This looks fun. I’ve never been up that way. Which boat launch do you use? Catch anything else up there besides the shad?

Nice! Lots of fun! Thanks for sharing! My grandaddy loved the roe, but I could never get past the strong, oily, fishy taste! Excellent Cobia bait!LOL!

I always had fun Shad fishing,I used ultra lights with 4-6lb and they are fun on a flyrod as well.I have not been for a couple years but used to get a limit. I would clean them and take the roe and fish to some old timers who loved them. Many of those folks are gone but their stories and smiles will live for ever in my memory. I had a friend she would cook one fish for the family and one for herself loved it. sHE WOULD BAKE THEM IN THE OVEN FOR SOMETIME AND SAID THE BONES ACTUALLY JUST ABOUT MELTED. tHEY ARE REALLY boney!!.

That crowd looks like Boca Grande pass during tarpon season!

I think the first fish I ever caught was a shad, when I was about 2. My dad loved them. Fun fishing for sure but I never learned to like them. We used to rent a Racer Evans paddle boat from Uncle Sheds fish camp on the Ogeechee River and wear them out. Boat cost $1 a day. Used a little hair jig called a crippled shrimp.

This is a Jack Leigh photograph, not mine, but it was taken at Uncles Sheds during the spring run in the late 1950s. They drew a crowd even then.

Cool pic Larry! I counted 36 boats in sight while we were there on a weekday. The DNR person at the landing said on the weekend there will be 75-80 boats. Thats too much for me!

Sounds like fishing for cobia in June on the Broad River.

No credit to me, Jack Leigh is a MUCH better photographer than I am. The picture can be found in this book by him http://www.amazon.com/The-Ogeechee-Wormsloe-Foundation-Publications/dp/082032650X.

I had the pleasure a few years ago of restoring one of the original Racer Evans boats seen there.
