Man, it’s quiet around here. Does the SAFMC really have everyone that scared to post reports? I hate it. Those jackasses will open and close fisheries regardless of whether or not you guys post fish pictures. BRING BACK THE REPORTS
Anyways,
Ran a quick trolling trip to the GTH and picked up a nice wahoo and sail within the first hour or so.
Had the sail knock the starboard short, hookup and blister across the spread throwing the hook back at us. About 5 seconds later the port long takes off screaming. After about 200yds of line, the fish sounds and stays down for the next 30 minutes. We were just beyond 100 fathoms so I have visions of a big yellowfin/blackfin/whatever in my head. Unfortunately, we pulled up a 61" FL Sailfish with a 9/0 mustad imbedded perfectly in the knuckle of its tail and it was dead as a door nail. That pretty much ruined our mood for the rest of the morning so we called it early and hit a few ledges for the groopahs on the way home. Managed to catch everything but. Still a fun trip with some good friends.
Thanksgiving:
Took the girlfriend out for her first offshore trip.
Recently, she’s been talking about engagement rings and other long-term nonsense so I figured a 40 mile jaunt out into the great Atlantic in 50 degree temps would be a good way to break her from her brief moment of hysteria.
Had an enjoyable trip but I believe her last words were something along the lines of, “This was fun but don’t plan on doing this very often when I come to visit…” Oh well, I’ll miss her.
Starting to. Most of those fish came out of 90-110’ on some pretty good relief. We hit a couple of spots in the 60-70’ range and found some grunts but no groupers.
Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.
