Fishing inshore today and just as the bite started to turn on I realize the boat has taken on a lot of water. Was able to run her up on the beach with a falling tide. Many thanks to Capt. Anthony Noury and staff of Sea Tow Charleston for their help and escorting me over to the Shem Creek Boat landing ensuring that I made if safely. Fine group of people that I recommend without hesitation to anyone who owns a boat and uses it in the Charleston area.
Glad things worked out, did you find out what was causing the water? Leaky plumbing?
We don’t know for sure but I think it was a faulty float switch combined with a live well plumbing failure. Float switch not working was why I didn’t know there was a problem until it was almost to late. Things I learned about taking on water… you get tired operating a hand pump quicker than you think you will (glad my bilge pump still worked on manual), you don’t have near the time to get into a life jacket as you think you do. In the end it was a good exercise for me. I’ve educated myself and rehearsed such an event, but going through it has made me a better boater.
