A guy who used to work with my wife has a son who is a fish-a-holic. We’ve talked for a few years about getting him on the water. He’s 16 years old and shore fishes every chance he gets, but only has a flounder to show for it. We changed that this weekend!
We hit the water Saturday early and got on fish right away. Before long he had his first ever trout and a striper - which I haven’t caught yet! Showoff!
We hit a few more spots and caught more dink trout and a small red - his first ever. We were plucking off a lot of fish, but all small. These were caught on MM/jighead, and I got a dink on the TT.
We found a school of finger mullet and filled the well. Time to go after bigger fish! His Dad caught a 20" trout and we caught several 16-18" on the mullet. We moved and got into some reds, all slot. Mark (the 16 y/o) got a flounder, completing his slam on his first trip on a boat.
Saturday was so fun we decided to go Sunday! I was behind on the tide and time, but we managed a good day with several trout, a flounder, and a nice 27" red I caught on a Gulp Saphire Shine.
I would detail the report, but we caught fish in a variety of ways, the most consistent being trout hugged up against the grass. We worked it! If it was not happening in 10 minutes, we boogied to the next spot. GREAT time!
I’ve had a lot of fun taking other folks, especially teenagers, who just don’t know how, and can’t. That is the true prize of fishing if you ask me. Fewer friendships are so strong as fishin’ buddies.
