Taking the plunge

Ok, one more question…Marine Stabil or Sea Foam as a fuel additive and why? I don’t foresee my boat sitting in storage for months at a time but with everything having ethanol in it now, I’d like to stay proactive.

Wind N @ 15, 35 degrees, no thanks, I’ll bunch up in front of my fireplace and think about catching some later

Sustained West winds of 15mph with gusts to 20mph. The temp doesn’t bother me but that wind on Lake Murray is a NOGO. It’s probably going to be another week or two before I get a chance to make it back down to the salt. I’ll be doing the break-in up here hopefully this coming week.

Cuda, I appreciate the heads up on the non-ethanol but the price of a good additive is more attractive to me than 30 gallons of $3+ per gallon gas. Even mid-grade is half the price of non-ethanol around here.

Plus, until I’m able to find those bunched up spottails, I’ll have to take your word for it. I have no problem finding the trout but the reds have always managed to elude me. I’ll stumble on to one or two stupid ones from time to time but I have yet to hit a big school of’em. Hopefully, with a little (more like a lot) more time on the water, that will become a thing of the past.

Non-E is worth EVERY PENNY
Pay now, or pay later. Pro tip.

my boat can sit for sometimes 2 months without running, and non-e is much safer in this situation. especially when you pull the boat out in the spring and then find out theres a problem… and the backlog for the mechanic is 3 weeks.

as long as you keep the ethanol stabilizer in the gas, and fill the tank to 100% after every trip it should be ok.

This^^^^^^^^^^ Four summers ago I had a $500 repair bill due to an ethanol issue and my carbs. Have not used anything but pure gas since.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

So…fuel stabilizer is like doing a tequila shot? Suck the lemon, snort the salt and throw the tequila over your shoulder?

Pull up to the pump, breakout the gas card, throw the fuel stabilizer over my shoulder and fill’er up with non-ethanol. Got it!!

look… you just bought a boat.

if you are going to whine about paying an extra 30 bucks every couple weeks for the best preventative maintenance you can do for your investment… you are in the wrong hobby.

then again, you guys are the ones that keep the fantastic mechanics like chrisV et al fed and happy… so carry on!

So I guess when you give someone advice or a tip, that person should just say “yes sir! Thank you, sir!”? I appreciate your advice but I don’t see where my response was “whining” of any sorts. For the record, since I’ve never owned a boat, 30 gallons of gas at over $3 per gallon is a little more than the $30 extra bucks you say I was whining about. Besides, did you miss the post I made where I conceded to the non-ethanol advice? I guess so. You were probably busy looking in the mirror calling yourself a bright and shining star.

I don’t know ChrisV and unless he lives in the Lexington area, I doubt he’ll be my mechanic. Granted that won’t stop me from seeking advice on this forum. Don’t know what he did to become a target of your disapproval but I’ve not seen him be disrespectful when someone didn’t bow down to his word.

I may or may not be in the wrong “hobby,” but at least I don’t take my self so serious to the point I throw a temper tantrum when someone doesn’t heed my words. Get over yourself.

The rest of you that gave me some advice, I greatly appreciate it and apologize for the derailment of this thread. It was very insightful and again, I appreciate it. See you on the water.

Apparently Baracuda has no problem spending other people’s money. I know I prefer it. Lol! I’m late to the party but definitely agree with Optiker on this one. Man, hope I don’t get ridiculed for agreeing with someone other than Baracuda.

No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.

I use non-e gas every chance I get, which is about half the time. I use marine Stabil with every tank of gas, no matter what type, and usually a little Yamaha Ring Free. In almost 8 years I’ve never had a fuel related problem. Probably about due for one, now that I’ve said that:face_with_head_bandage:

So there’s no adverse affects of using a fuel stabilizer even with non-E gas?

Hope your track record holds up. Thanks CL!
