Taking the plunge

The wife and I are preparing to jump in the truck and head out to pick up my new boat. I’ve been kicking the idea around for a while and figured this is as good a time as any. Getting an Xpress H20B bay boat with a Yamaha 115SHO. I have all of the “legalities” covered (PFD, throw devices, air horn, flare gun, fire extinguisher…). My question is, do I “build” a first aid kit for the boat or buy a kit? I know the kits will have some things I “may never need,” but I’d rather have it and not need it as opposed to need it and not have it. For those buying a kit, is there one you’d recommend over others?

Bye Bye, money!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I always preferred to build my own. Those kits have a lot of junk you will never use and lacking some stuff you might.

Good luck with the new boat BTW:sunglasses:

Agree. And, the kids have inferior stuff, like bandaids for example. They don’t stick worth a ****. Congrats on your new toy!

Congrats on the new toy!
I put together my own first aid kit as well. Commercial kits won’t have vinegar or peroxide or good forceps/tweezers,etc.

Can’t offer any tips that haven’t been covered by the pros before me, but just wanted to say, congrats on the new rig! Gotta be an exciting experience! Good luck with her, and post pics!

buy a pair of small bolt cutters from harbor freight and a bottle of peroxide in case someone jabs a hook into themselves. had that happen and was totally unprepared.

other than that, skip band-aids, go for gauze and medical tape. throw in a tube of neosporin and scissors and call it a day.

Agreed.

I always have a good pair of heavy duty crimpers on my boat with the side cutters just in case of this. Used it once in 10 years, but Sellsfish will tell you its well worth it.

I keep one of the cheap walmart first aid kits on my boat. They have some miscellaneous stuff in them that might come in handy. Like said in addition to that buy a box of bandaid brand 3/4" banddaids. those are the ones you go through the most. The first aid kit comes with like 2 of those (go figure). In addition to that get a bottle of Tylenol and a bottle of Tums and you have a pretty good first aid kit.
You would be amazed to see how grateful people are if they get a cut and you pull out a bandaid or if they have a headache (lots of those after Friday nights) and you pull out a Tylenol.
Good luck with the new boat!!!

Well, here she is. 2016 Xpress H20B Bay series w/115 SHO. Complete with Redfish package, Bay stainless package, Xtreme bay stainless package. Rides like a dream and plenty quick enough. Couldn’t be happier. Can’t wait to hit the water with her. More to the topic, I have a couple of extra IFAKs laying around that I’ll probably gut and throw in a few other items to complete my on-board first aid kit. I really appreciate all of the help and suggestions.

Also can’t wait to ask the “how far can I go…” questions and watch all of your heads explode. HAHAHAHAH!!!

Just kidding. I’m not “that guy.”

I didn’t say anything, but now that you say there are videos, post them up and we’ll vote on them! That Pee Sod, guy is always trying to get me in trouble! BTW, nice little boat:smiley:

Sorry Easy, no can do.

I’m happy with my little boat so far. It’ll take less fish to fill her up than those big boats and that helps my big ego. Lol!!

you’ll catch plenty of fish in that boat. That’s real nice. I’m happy for you. Hope to see you out there.
