Talk About Murphys Law

Got to my father in law’s house around 8am last Friday. Went to put the boat down and the lift was not working. Odd. Tripped the breakers to the lift and then it started working again.

Got the boat down and before cranking the engine noticed the power pole was down a little bit. Hit the UP button and the freaking thing went straight down and kept going until down all the way. Could not get the power pole back up. Also notice the DOWN button was out of the socket and hanging by a wire. Odd.

Can’t go fishing with the power pole 3 feet under the boat so we start putting the boat back up. 3/4th of the way up I’m standing on the stern still trying to get the power pole fixed. I hear a POP and all of a sudden I’m in free fall. Cable snapped, boat drops 5 feet and when it hits the water, I lose my balance and go off the back. Soaked.

Climb back in pretty freaked out as you can imagine. Next option, crank the engine and move it around to the floating dock. engine won’t crank. Maneuvered the boat around the dock by holding onto the pylons.

soaking wet and pretty cold. had to call my father in law, who was out of town, to say…

1.) cable broke, lift stuck in the pluff mud
2.) power pole is stuck down
3.) can’t get the engine cranked.

Figured the boat and lift must have been hit by lightening. Lightening had no impact on the cable snapping, was just a coincidence, but talk about MURPHY’S LAW!!

and to make this fishing report…I will add that we obviously didn’t catch anything.

Sometimes we are sent a sign we fail to heed. Maybe “someone” did not want you to go fishing. Ha Ha At least you weren’t hurt.

So he didn’t figure out how you’re wanting a new boat and jet dock?

Luke 8:22-25

Hey guys, my first post, new to the site and just started Redfishing, I’m hooked to say the least. Now as for Shevlin’s post, I can vouch for this as I was the one bringing the boat up so we could figure out what the heck was wrong with the power pole, then… POP! BAMM! and Shevlin goes in! Evidently the Fishing Gods were trying to tell us something that morning…

Yikes! Glad I’m poor. If something hits my boat it might pop the tires and drop 4". LOL!

Sorry you had all the troubles. NUTS!

Thanks Penny. And thanks Capt Ed and Stonoman for pointing out the lightening lift cable weakening etc.

I guess I’ll be the one to point out what is REALLY important here. Boyette’s avatar just took the title of “best avatar on the site” from Shevlin. “Oh Canada” is playing in my head now. My goodness…LSK who?

If you’re not effecting the world around you in a positive manner…you’re taking up too much space.

Power poles sound really cool. I am always more than a little jealous of folks who have docks and boat lifts. After reading your story, I am thankful for for my anchors with no moving parts and a trailer in good workng order !

Glad no one was hurt, but have to agree with Jack Taylor.

Those lofts fail all the time like that. That’s why I like the jet docks and other floating lifts better.

(**() Shevlin, we were out that way that weekend looking for you guys. Saw the boat was on the dock, figured you had been out fishing, didn’t know you were making suicide attempts.
