I love mine! I’ve go out to y-73, and I’ve heard I believe it’s HeadsandTails on here has a 22 bay that he has been sailfishin on. Only suggestion is GET CURTAINS, I think every time I’ve been out the winds are from the N, makes for broadside wave strikes, and the spray’ll get ya every time. My 197 handles rough seas well, I really think it’s a great all round boat, inshore/offshore as I fish/dive both. I’ve got the suzuki 150 pushes her full throttle about 45mph, best fuel economy about 4500RPM 26-30MPH

Also to add, I believe their 22Sport Fisher model will be out mid may from what i’ve heard, ought to be an awesome ride. Also the Reps are great to deal with, handling any problems right away, and they are a local boat builder supporting the local economy!

Good boat for those who may want to fish in blue water on good days a few times a year and otherwise will be nearshore and inshore with it. Pretty well laid out for fishing without taking away some of the family type features. Very high freeboard and spatious cockpit for a 20ft boat. Much of the spatiousness is from having a narrow center console, however. Two grown men cannot both hide behind the windshield. With tabs, the 197 feels and handles much like a 22 or 23ft boat in rough water. It is by far the best riding and handling 20ft boat I know of. Also does extremely good on fuel when powered by the F150. I have made a trip in one and limited on sea bass and also caught a few gags when the seas were 6x6’s, and the boat took 15 gallons to fill up. A normal trip to 110ft to bottom fish all day moving around from spot to spot and running in nearly WOT takes around 30-35 gallons. The boat does extremely well in chop if you keep it level. Tabs make a tremendous difference on this hull. The entry of the hull has a good bit of flare, but there is also a little bit of reverse chine at the water line that makes the ride fairly dry. Like I said, it’s the best riding and handling 20ft boat you’re going to find. I also must say it is a very tough boat. All of the Pioneers are. I have not seen any of the half dozen or so I’ve been on have any issues even after running them as hard as I could stand in the ocean. The layout is very open and efficient for fishing. The only negative to the boat is the amount of storage I think. The anchor locker is not big enough to accomodate anything bigger than an inshore anchor. The large storage box in the front is bigger than you can tell just by looking at the lid. Plenty room for fish on a normal day. After that, you have to put all your PFD’s and safety gear under the center console, and that basically gets full then. There is an access hatch to get under the leaning post seat/livewell where the batteries and plumbing to the livewell are, but there isn’t much room in
We testdrove it yesterday up near Bushy Park and I really liked the way the boat handles a lot. My buddy isn’t a fisherman yet (He’s on his way with my help though) but I believe its a perfect boat for him. Probably 80% of the boat’s use will be family outings and cruising and beaching it. The other 20% will be for fishing.
No tabs or VHF on the boat now, but certainly on the list of must haves. Phinigan, that’s excellent information.
Thanks for all the replies.
Also wanted to ask if anyone knew what a 1/4" drilled hole just below the eye would be for on this boat? Maybe something for shipping purposes? It looks like it was certainly put there on purpose, but I wasn’t sure what it was for exactly.

Make sure it has tabs…
The pros:
Handles the chop great for it’s size
great on gas 40 gallons all day out 60nm and back
great layout and solid boat
The cons:
The electrical system isn’t that great I had to replace all the wiring they went pretty cheap on that. I had lots of electrical problems. Mainly due to cheap wiring and water getting in the console, I had to seal it up better than how it came from the factory. The curtains they have for it kind of suck no real system designed to roll them up when you get to your spot. Water gets into some of the compartments because of design flaws with the back headrests but they have probably fixed that problem with newer models. I had to put a backer plate on the steering wheel because it started to want to bust through the glass on the console.

On the other hand, it has been sitting there for quite some time. This could indicate a lack of money lending available for said vessel or a price too high. There is an outside chance that there has not been much interest in the bote, however, and your friend should lowball an offer of $15,000 cash a.s.a.p. before exposure from you posting about it on this site brings more interest to the seller.

I sent you an email…check it dude.
i have an 07 pioneer. ive had it for a while now. i love that boat. I use and abuse mine up and down ther east coast from nc to the keys and have taken a couple of trips onver to bimini out of fort lauderdale. iv had mine for about 4 years now and its still holding up great. definalty get the LENCO trim tabs and vhf. never had any problems with wiring or any other factory flaws. ive owned a few and driven lots of boats in this size range and i think its the best all around boat. i can run accross 12 inches of water trimmed up and shoot through the harbor on a rough day. 20ft boat can only keep you so dry but for what it is i cant talk a bout a better boat. holds plenty of people and still gets on plane no problem and rides like a dream. i have an f 150 yamaha. no problems. one of my favorite things is the fact that nothing drains into the hull. every thing goes straight out the back through awesome stainless through hulls. livewell works like a dream. i can keep goggle eyes alive no problem and and thatsa pain in the a$$ to do. the only sugestion i have is it play with the prop a little bit i have a 19 in pitch stilletto prop and its works great. loaded or not itll go.
