I lived in St. Pete for 11 years, if all else fails go out to Ft. DeSoto Park. There are miles of great flats and two piers that used to produce Spanish, Trout, Flounder, Reds and more. Not sure exactly where you are in Tamps but that area is great
The only fishing I have done in that area is north of Tampa (Weeki Wachee, Bayport and Hernando Beach) mostly offshore. There is great trout fishing all along that area, especially around Crystal River and that area.
Probably not much help. I usedf to fish under the Courtney Cambell bridge , going towards St Pete .You used to be able to drive down beside the bridge. On the right side of bridge as you are facing St Pete is where the trout used to be. Use a light weight that will allow your bait to move along the bottom . Or if the water isnt too cold you can wade to the left side as you come out of Tampa. For anyone that is there when the large Drum are biting use the same area as for trout. But on the other side og bridge, using crab. The Drum are close in where you dont have to cast very far from shore .
I DONT HAVE A BOAT
BUT LOVE TO FISH> HINT
Thanks APOB… I happen to be on Rocky Pt and the cc bridge is right there. Gonna start fishing next week like you say off the bank with some light weight jigs and soft baits. There is a dock at the hotel also on the north side of the bridge. I’ve seen several snook and they have lights at night. Gonna be fun! I’ll keep y’all posted…

Try Cypress Park, just north of you. Great flats, but use extreme care due to sudden drop offs and swift current in a few of the spots. Mainly trout and reds this time of the year.
