Does anyone have any recommendations when it comes to tandem kayaks? I’m looking for a second yak, so I can take my wife or son out fishing. Also, if anyone has one for sale please let me know. I may be interested in purchasing it.
i was lookin at em,and from my findings,i would go with the ultimate 14.5…then you can switch to solo and have the fishing machine.
gots to get out for some trout
I know Willy likes the Native 14. Ask your wife if she’d rather peddle with legs, than paddle with arms. My middle-age wife loves our Hobie Outfitter and I use the front for gear when I go fishing solo. I still like my Native 12 when alone.
stickman
if you can afford a hobie…that would be the choice for the lady.

Are you looking for a sit on top or sit in??
Jeff you know my recommendation, the Ultimate 14.5 you can take mine out sometime and let her try it out. Of course my wife has never gone with me but thats not a bad thing but Zack loves it. I looked at alot of tandems before I bought mine. Problem with most is that they are heavy, slower and dont convert to a single very well. With Hobies there are places we get into during the winter that they could not get into. Have a buddy that has one and he had to sit outside and watch us fish.
DD or 5151 do either of ya’ll have some pics and/or know were I could find a used one? I also am looking. Thanks

Could I put a rudder on it ? When he is standing, is it on sand below? What kind of $ are we talking(w/rudder) ? Thank you for your help.
The more you fish, the better you lie.
14.5 'yak 175 lb motor
Looks like the Ultimate 14.5 is the boat for me…… I talked to John down at Time Out and he gave me the grand tour. Very nice ride with lots of standard features,. Also, with 5151 advice I’ve found that there are a lot of accessories. I’m particularly interested in the full skirt. With this option the yak may not only become my doubles boat, but it could also become my cold weather boat.
i own a pelican apex tandem yak, i take my wife and son out on it all the time, its comfortable i think, check out the Lets see your yak thread that i posted, mines the first one.
bring em in
recommendation: get two kayaks.
they call them divorce boats for a reason.

Technically, there is no rudder option for this boat. If you could fashion some sort of mounting bracket out of stainless or aluminum for the stern of the boat, you could install a rudder I suppose. I have never seen it done on this boat, but I have seen some custom jobs on other boats that “shouldn’t Have Rudders” (Like pungos).
Boat sells for $925, most rudder kits are in the $200 range.
As far as standing, he is in about 5 feet of water right there.
