I have heard folks refer to a “taped” net on several topics on the shrimping Forum … could someone please tell me what a taped net is and what it does for you? Yea, might be a dumba$$ question but I am willing to afford that part to learn from the “pros”! Thanks guys!
Tape or webbing sewn in at the bottom of the net that helps it spread out as it sinks.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.
You wouldn’t need it in shallow water, running poles etc. But when shrimping deep water it really increases your catch.

The tape being referred to here is usually duct tape. It is applied to both sides of the net approx. one to three inches above the weight line at the bottom of a cast net. It can keep a cast net from closing at depths. (when deep holing). Sewn webbing, well that is what it is. Usually, it is webbing used for lawn chairs. As mentioned above it really keeps your net spread out.
If you tape one of your nets, spread it out and work in strips of duct tape that you can manage. As said…place a few inchs above weight line in as straight and even a line as you can, flip over the skirt and place another piece of tape as close. And evenly on top of first piece as possible. Working along the opposite side of net… I often like to do this over a table of other raised flt surface Make sure you don’t get your draw strings caught under tape :). Do this the whole way around net. I have seen people do it in only sections but I always tape mine the whole way around. I bought one of the Nets with sewn webbing and it is really nice as the duct tape after a while will sometimes become hard, gummy or lose. It definately helps in deeper waer…as does adding. Another piece of line to make your rope longer to allow for depth or drift. Duct tape also comes in handy for temporary patchs for a hole or two

CaptFritz, Long Enuff, baitshrimper and penfishn!! Thanks very much for that info, great tips there for sure. I really appreciate it! My only question here is do you tape over the leads on the line or stop/start around the leads? Penfishn, you may have answered this question, may be a matter of preference. thanks again, all!
No, you don’t tape over the leads. Parallel to the lead line and a few inches above it.
