I know they sell nets just for this but I got and extra one laying around and was wonder if anyone has ever put the tape on one thierself and made one. Was wondering what kind of tape to use and the placement of tape on the net all help is nappreciated
I used regular 2" duct tape and taped the net a couple of inches above the lead line. I worked in about 2’ intervals taping one side then turning that part over and taping right on top of the tape on the other side, the net will be sandwiched between the tape. Other’s might havea better method but this worked for me.
That’s exactly how we did it too Ivy. I had a second hand tho and didn’t need to turn it over. I used the kitchen table and just kept spinning the net. She would lift it, I slide the duct tape into place. Then cut another piece to cover it… You’ll see it’s pretty easy once you get started.
It is best if you have an extra pair of hands to do this. My wife and I taped an 8 foot net yesterday and it took about 40 minutes to complete. I use 3M tape #375, expensive but worth the expense. We tape with my wife sitting in a lawn chair and we use two rolls of tape at the same time. She puts her roll on the under side and I apply my roll on the top side. The net is in front of her and I was positioned beside her left knee kneeling down. We tape 3" from the lead line. We would tape about 18" working from her right knee to her left knee then rotate the net to the right. We pressed the two together as we moved the taped section across her right knee. Hope this helps.
I did a 7 footer yesterday by myself. Got real frustrated until I propped up a large trailer spare tire. It started moving fast when I draped the net over the tire. The tire rubber and tread holds everything in place. I ran about 6 feet then flipped it over and put matching tape on the other side.
Got about 3/4 of my 8ft net done today looks pretty good I spread it out on the ground and had a cutting board under the spot I was working in would cut tape for bottom and lay it on the board then place the net on too then put the too price of tape on the board would hold the bottom piece for and also when putting top piece on it gave me a nice hard surface to press the two pieces together I think it looks on but I have never seen anybody else’s so I don’t have anything to go by but I just hope I can use it in 30 to 35 ft water
I use the high quality clear packing tape. Take a 6’ or 8’ table and lay the lead-line edge on the table. Apply tape to the outside of the net about 2-3 inches above the lead-line for the length of the table, and then cut the tape. Flip the edge of the net over and apply tape to the underside of the net effectively sandwiching the net between the tape for the length of the table. Do not cut the tape yet!! Now slide the net down the table and continue the taping of the underside for the length of the table. Now you can cut the tape and flip the edge of the net back to the outside of the net. Now apply the tape to the outside of the net for the length of the table, effectively sandwiching the net between the tape for the length of the table. Do not cut the tape yet! Slide the net down the table and continue taping the outside of the net. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat! I hang horned end of the net in the air very close to the table. 6 coolers so far this year deep-holing.
