this post might get frowned upon, but was driving through the harbor, and saw a huge tarpon jump out of the water. Wish I had pictures to prove it. Y’all can understand when we immediately stopped and tried to fish for it

So, not to discount what you saw, but last weekend we had a large sturgeon jump near the ship terminal right in front of us. Got a good look at it.

The tarpon must be around. I was out kiteboarding at breach inlet about 50 yards off the outer sandbar and saw one swimming on the top about a foot in front of me.

I, too, have seen them breech in the harbor. If you see only the belly side, it’s easily mistaken for a tarpon.
But, yes, the tarpon are all over too!

I was at Edisto two weeks ago something big and shiny jumped about 3 feet out of the water. I thought it was a king but maybe it was a tarpon.
The tarpon migrate by the first 2 weeks oF June an some of them stay till October. We got tarpon people don’t post about them.
I have a good buddy who was up in Geogetown 2 summers ago and said there were tarpon rolling everywhere in the river in the morning.

If it was clearing the water and you didn’t have a hook in its mouth with an emptying spool, I’d put money on it being a sturgeon 99% of the time. I used to think I was seeing tarpon, too, but after being close to actively feeding tarpon, you’ll see why you won’t make the mistake anymore.
If it doesn’t bling it’s likely not a tarpon. There’s a reason they call them silver kings.
