I am buying a tarpon combo for my son who lives in South Florida.Any suggestions as to reel,rod length and action ,line ,and hook size.
Looking at Shimano Speros 6500 or 5500 for the reel.
If I were to have a dedicated tarpon rod, it’d be a Penn ssv 6500, 30 lb mono or 30 lb braid, 7’ to 8’ medium heavy action rod, 80 lb flouro leader, 6/0 circles.
I do just fine with a 6’6" M Trevala and ssv 5500 or Saltist 4500 and 30-50lb braid though. Just depends on what you’re comfortable with.
