Tarpon rod

Plan on going tarpon fishing This weekend and need a good rod for tarpon, bull reds and nice sharks. If you have any recommendations for a good rod that would be great. will put in on a penn 650.

250 yards of 15# mono capacity? Isn’t that a little low for tarpon? I’m certainly not a tarpon fisherman but I think they go for a 7’-8’ rod with a good amount of flex. With that reel you will likely need a boat to chase.
But lets see what an expert has to say.

First, Most, Biggest
I want to catch them all

The 6500 is fine if you put 30-50 lb braid on it. If you want to go the mono route, I’d recommend a reel with more line capacity like a 7500 or 8500 in order to fit enough 30 lb mono. Alternately, you could back your 6500 with 30-50 lb braid an use a top shot of 30 lb mono to get the stretch benefit of the mono and the capacity with the braid.

7-8’ rod is preferred. What is your budget?

Don’t really have a budget but nothing crazy

Shimano teramar 7’ heavy 15-30 line rating is good, and I think they are still $110. They also have an 8’ heavy and xxh teramar that I think is a 40lb class rod. If you want to spend more, the shimano terez and terez waxwing rods are great, lots of models to choose from.
