I believe they follow the mullet running south in the fall.
I’m sure somebody else on here knows more.

When do they show up to the point where you can predictably target them?
Tarpon is a a fish I haven’t crossed off of my “caught one” list. How about you ■■■■■■■■?

Think they usually show up when water hits about 77 or higher, usually mid-July, but I am sure we will have a few show up soon
When the tarpon do show, does anyone target them with fly or are they in the deep channels so you have to soak a live/dead bait pretty deep?
Hoof, I’ve caught them in FL, but didn’t have my boat up here until later last year so haven’t tried for them up this way yet. Some buddies of mine sent some pics of them landing a few this week back in FL, so it got me wondering when I may have a shot for one here. Lots of fun, pretty neat to see a 100+ pound fish jump 5 or 6 feet out of the water.

I’ve hooked into one with a big ole mullet on the bottom in about 20’ in the north side of the Broad a few years ago. We saw them rollin’ as we were scouting for more bait. Tossed the anchor and started setting mullet out. Hooked several big sharks first then a 100#+ tarpon goes to the sky. We had him on for a bit, but he got off.
