Team All Rise & FREEMAN back 2 Venice 12 Jul-PICS

Thump… thump… thump… I watched the bowed over rod tip bounce in slow motion thump… thump… thump… Billy Freeman pointed out last trip the thump on the tip was an indicator of how big of a yellowfin was hooked on the other end. The longer the interval, the bigger the fish.

I knew this was not monster but it was definitely bigger than anything we had hooked in 2 days of fishing. Chunky was to my left, Pross to my right, Haywood was looking over my shoulder, LnS was at the wheel, Brianh was prepping the deck for what he was hoping to come. It was kind of quite though. We all knew what was at stake, and no one wanted to jinx it. Thump… thump… thump… I was still losing line 10 mins into the fight… Chunky… get me the harness, this could be a while… The crew strapped me in as the sun began to set… My mind wondered back to just a few days before…

Pross met me at the house at lunch time Thursday afternoon and we were off to catch up with the crew as Brianh, Chunky, Haywood, and LnS Marine had a huge head start pulling Brianh’s 31 Cape Horn to Venice. Bully and a team of 5 were fishing the 40 FREEMAN and already had 2 days under their belt. Bite was strong, weather was nice, and 10.5 hours later we were sitting in the house boat ready to roll!

Day 1:
Met up with Bully and crew to head out into the Gulf of Mexico!

The 40 FREEMAN is unbelievable in person, FISHING MACHINE!
Followed them to the bait and in no time we were heading toward the rigs. Brianh jumped up on the bow of his custom 31 Cape Horn and the very first cast a yellowfin slams his popper!

It was on! This is why we came back to Venice, the proving grounds of the greatest captains, boats, and tackle in the US and we were not disappointed!

Good job (again) Scoutin’ and crew. I think we’re gonna try and head down there in September or October. How much did the big one weigh?

That is suppose to be the best time of year to go for the big boys. We MAY, try to go back. Burnt up most of the wife hall passes though…

You guys SUCK!

Just kidding, I have that on my bucket list.

Don’t put it off, just do it!

The only downside to ever going down there for the first time is the fact that you will be back many more times!

Other than find new friends. Is there a way a single can work up a group or is bring your ownfriends kind of thing. Also most say xxx dollars plus fuel. On average how much is fuel?

Let me get home tonight and off this phone, I will give a total break down of everything. Lots of questions about it today.
