Team All Rise on the new 33 FREEMAN 4-8-13 (Pics)

Got the call from Bully to test out the brand new 2013 Freeman 33. Called my boys and with in minutes LnS Marine, Brianh, Chunky Dunk, and myself joined Bully and Ferreel for some spring time trolling.

Got to Charleston Sunday afternoon to rig up.

Grabbed some supper and crashed at Brianh’s pad then back at the boat for a 5:30am blast off.

The new 33 has some cool features including more storage, larger cockpit and some super comfortable helm seating. Took a power nap on the way out and before I knew it we were ready to fish. The ocean was not real happy to see us first thing but the Freeman made it very comfortable.

Lines in and it started a bit slow. Then BAM ZZZZZ! Long rigger goes down! Made quick work of our first tun… nope bonita. Few mins later BAM! ZZZZZ!! Small wahoo? Nope reef donkey.:imp:

Got a call from a good buddy back from my Sumter days and he brought us to some better action.

Started picking at them with pretty steady action. Lots of knock downs, pulled hooks cut offs and trash… lots and lots of trash… Bonita after bonita after AJ… Then the cudas moved in…

Finally the long right goes down and Chunky jumps on it.

In comes a tail rapped but nice blackfin. Finally the stank was out of the box.

I joked all we need now is a shark and we can complete the trash fish slam. Then bam!! ZZZZZ! 2 rods go down. 2 sharks come to the back of the boat.

Tried to get away from the trash then had the daymaker explode on the surface. Nice wahoo hooked up! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!

Chunky worked the rod and the crew cleared the cockpit. Lns buried the gaff and about went overboard with him, but one big grunt later and over the gunnel comes a nice wahoo.

He was not happy to see us so Brianh and Lns pinned him t

Awesome report - thanks for taking the time to post.

i would like to fish on Freeman 1 day but i know i would just hate my boat that much more if i did…

Nice report, hope to be out there this weekend?

Fantastic report, Scott. How much did that stud 'hoo weigh?

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

Nice looking plate of sushi too.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

The wahoo weighed 50lbs.

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Great time on a great boat with a great crew. If you ever get a chance to fish with these guys don’t pass it up. They know their stuff and have fun doing it. Not one of these guys slacked off, we fished hard for over ten hours. Chef BrianH put out some mean ceviche and LNS and Chunky Dunk kept us entertained. Scoutin was like Tiger Woods with his laser focus all day.
I had ridden on a Freeman a couple of years ago, but was excited to fish out of it. It did not disappoint. I expected the ride to be good and it was. I would easily say that our ride out was 6-8 mph faster than the boat I normally fish (32 Everglades). Ocean was a solid 3-4 (3.9 according to the buoy). What surprised me was the fishability of the boat. It never felt crowded with 6 guys and the width between the gunnel and console allowed you to move around, set lines, etc without bumping into each other. More than enough storage and fit and finish is superb. Billy’s got one hell of a boat. Good time was had by all!

Sushi is easy if you have all the right stuff. Find an Asian market. They will have the right kind of rice, seaweed, and seasonings. You can add cream cheese, cucumber, etc to make it your own. Very tasty!

ill demolish a sushi bar when its in front of me but never made my own before…time to learn! if i can catch a wahoo i know its great cooked but am very interested in tryin it raw. as for blackfins ive heard a few mixed reports as to how good they are but keep seeing them in peoples fish boxes. im guessing bleed em out and clean out the lateral line and theyre fine seared/grilled/raw?

blackfin’s great! People that don’t like blackfin don’t like fish.
