After all the fuss from Phin and Skinneej on this bottom action. Myself, Chunky Dunk, Partsman, Pallet, and LnS Marine boarded Partsmans new to him 27 Contender (Thriller) to take on a hot, slick late summer day of bottom fishing and diving. I resorted to my list of numbers I bought from Phin off ebay and went to SKINJ437. Not sure what he got his naming from? Slick ride out except for the exit of the GT jetties chop that Partsman used to get some air in the props on the new boat.
When we got to the numbers Pallet deployed a bucktail and Partsman sent down a bottom rig. First fish from Partsman was a small shark. Then Pallet crossed the eyes of a nice grouper. Boated him and geared up. Bottom looked nice, visibility was about 15 feet. We divided into teams and and alternated dives as to keep someone on the boat at all times. Action was pretty steady, each group made 2 105 foot dives then we went shallower in search of flounder and made 2 60 foot dives. Nothing on the flounder, should have stayed deep. All in all not a bad day for some guys that are still learning the ropes diving.

After OOhhs and AAhhs, Partmans tells me he is going to out do me and comes back with a nice grouper and hogfish.
Watching LnS Marine shoot his first fish, he caught on very quick and brought some good ones to the boat.
Riding in the 27 that you would swear only has a on/off switch on the throttles. If I did not know any better I would say Partsman stole that boat the way he drives it!

great catch… that is the biggest Hogfish I have ever seen!!! very nice. I bet he pulled you all over the bottom before making it to the stringer.

Yea was not really ready for that. Shot him and he did a flip, thought is was over they all hell broke loose. I got a nice tour of the ledge we were on as he drug me all over the place. LnS was a big help cause he was kicking my butt. The more I do this the more I respect the diving guys.

Scoutin, you may want to tell that dude in the t-shirt to go get himself a wetsuit. He’s going to be a sorry cookie when he has to ascend through 40 feet of jelly fish or when he rubs his arms on some fire coral while digging for a lobster.

Yea, ole Partsman needs to get some updated equipment. He is using some older stuff he got off a bud. I am guessing he will be purchasing some new stuff really soon.
The fish will be weighed this afternoon before cleaning. I did not realize that the state record is only 20lbs. I know it will not count since I shot him with the spear gun but still pretty cool

If you look really close the second to last eye on that rod is broken. Those are Partsman’s rods he is wanting some new stuff but I told him to hold off for a few weeks until the “Phin Avet Summer Blow Out Bash”. We are eagerly anticipating the summer Avet clearance sale so you can make room for 2008 models. I am thinking Hoo Xs for cheap!

Greg ,I know these guys personally,They are tough as nails. I doubt if they even know what a wetsuit is.They may not be the best,but the best will stop and look at 'em:smiley:
Greg1, got a number from Chunky and Pallet but I have no idea if they are being straight with me. They will lie to you like no other. Fish was 39 inches long. I need to get a confirmation from them before I submit it to the CF galley. I am guessing that is a pretty big fish but honestly have very little experence with them. He was the easiest shot of the day. Swam right up to me. As mentioned earlier the fight was rough. What is the biggest one you have ever shot?
