P1 picked me up from the house at 3, and we drove down to edistofisher’s vacation home on Islamoredisto yesterday morning. Edistofisher threw some tasty creations on us before light, and we could only deduce their identity after scarfing them down. Sausage biscuits was the consensus, and they were good ones…
We got to the killerkat at 4AM, and it wasn’t long before we were passing the A-can and running out to the ledge at 20kts. Trash was talked during this entire time regardless of my providing pilot services at the helm for my friends to enjoy.
Team Avet’s trap was set out straightaway behind the killer as soon as we hit 155ft, and we started working offshore from there. Team Penn soon joined the action with some premade baits that’d make most pro-staffs jealous.
Team microdolphin decided to make fun of our traps though. I’m telling you they made us look stoopid for sure. We had about 4 or 5 short strikes before we finally got one of the bigger ones hooked.
We got away from the small timers and looked for bigger fish. We then found some scattered grass that was trying to mat up. This also happened to be where a large rip resided, so we worked that area for quite some time with only one other boat within sight.
Larger slingers and small gaffers started getting hooked up then, but not without losing several to spit hooks and even at boatside. EF fought a good cow all the way to boatside, and I was going to sling her. As soon as I had her leadered, P1 noted that she would need a gaff due to being foul hooked in the back instead of the jaw. Unfortunately, my instincts to sling the fish were ahead of my brain, and I pulled the hook right out of the fish and off she went.
We continued working though. We’d gone through about a dozen baits and only had 2 or 3 fish in the box. P1 stayed on the rip, and EF and I kept the grass off the lines. We kept picking up 1 or 2 dolphin here and there, and the size improved. Soon, we realized that we were running out of bait. Oh well…
That was a lot of fun yesterday! I enjoyed all the smack being talked. Did the Hoo make it to 60 lbs? Or was that a 23 SF weight? I will let 23 post, we did OK, the ledge was lit up, but I could not keep a 24 oz on the bottom! Those big tides have it all screwed up. The hot rig for us, was the planer rod with a red / black. I did manage to get a nice sand tilefish. Great job on the ARS and Gagg! I got a kick out of hearing that wild animal in the background when you were on the radio. Good times!
NMFS = No More Fishing Season
“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”

Oh yeah, that sixty was on the 23ski-doo scale. It was more like 25-35 lbs.
The current was bad inshore too, but we got a few to bite at least.
60 down to 25-35lbs. That’s quite some cooler shrinkage. Fish look much bigger on the VHF. Good going on your day. Also, we are going to have to put a word count limit on your future reports. I had to take a break from work after reading through all that.

Remember that the “60 pounds” was tailored specifically for 23sailfish’s ears.

Luke 8:22-25
Play it off as much as you can…There was no mistaking that loud redneck whoo hoo n’ and hollerin’ in the background!
