Yes I took a lot but when the bite is slow and you are on a boat for 20hrs with Phin you do what you can to entertain yourself.

Captain Morgan?

Rockhinds anyone?

The fish pulling on the end of that rod is the one that took it.

Edisto fisher style:wink:

The shark

Phin is hard on an anchor!

Phin and his Avet pulling on the cobia.

If Phin would go straighter up his anchor course he would not bend your anchors.

I never bend anchors.

Young Phin Skywalker has much to learn about Jedi anchoring skills. One must to not let the force bend your anchor to the dark side. Then you will be dragging your saber through the fish…young Jedi Master.

Master Yoda has said this:

From the dark side fear comes. Fear leads to hate. Hate leads to anger. Anger leads to lack of control. Lack of control leads to bending of anchors. Stalled out many times over the anchor the motors did.

I had a lot of fun participating in this, I definately look forward to doing phish off!

It seems that every team faced some tough luck, congrats to everybody that participated for making this event a success!

Sorry to hear about the mechanical failures Ef and Hattarser.

Jermz and Gaffing4Daises make a great crew, good work guys!

Phin, as always fishing was great!

Just like Phin mentioned in his first post I also owe a big thanks for all of the advise and teaching that I have been able to receive from some great fisherman!

P1, thanks for spending so much time passing your knowledge on to me. I really appreciate everything youve done! Hope we can get out on the boat together again soon!

Sells, I appreciate all the time you’ve spent passing your knowledge about fishing, it has proven very valuable.

Sells hit the nail on the head the other day during one of our many conversations, i was thanking him for all of the info he has provided and he stated that is what this site is all about. I think he is right, this site has opened up lots of opportunities for me and a lot of the other members to fish with lots of talented fishermen. I think we should give a big thanks to the Picketts for starting and maintaining this site! I’m glad to be able to be a part of all of this!

What was the main bait being used here during this slaughter?

Great post, lots of great pics. Gets me jacked up looking at them. My little bay boat won’t make it that far out.

All the big fish were caught on live bait except my red grouper, he was caught on a cigar minnow.

The cobia was caught while Phin was reeling in a b-liner. I was watching the rod while he was pulling him up and SLAM it doubled in half. The fight was on. Figured he had an AJ since we had already caught one under the same circumstances. When he finally got to the top we were all surprised. The fish walked Phin around the boat a couple of times. Under the motors and around and around. Jerms has it on video. I made a pro style gaff shot in the mouth as not to ruin any meat and slammed him on the deck. (I barely got him through the lips, if the gaff would have pulled I never would have heard the end of it) Threw him in the fish box and jumped around like we won the super bowl:smiley:

OP1 the force is strong with him but needs training. The young jedi needs more work with the master to hone his skills. Take him, beat discipline into him with a fiberglass stick, umble him. It is our only hope OP1. There are only so many anchors.

Thanks a ton for having me aboard, I had a great time! Let’s do it again…

It was good to finally fish with you, S4G.

Trust me, while your pinned down taking enemy fire and you call in for air support and you hear a jets afterburner crackin the air overhead would be the most liberating sound you could ever ask for. I haven’t experienced that first hand in actual combat, but I have trained in a similar scenario where it still makes the hair stand up on your body.

I hate to disappoint you…but my gag weighed in at 36.7 lbs…:sunglasses:

With a last name like Herring…either you catch fish or become bait!!

Good job. We will have to try and beat your weight for a while now.

Yea but we caught a red grouper, 2 scamp, 3 snapper, 3 rockhinds and a stud of a cobia.

Oh yea we won the tournament too.:smiley:

Nice grouper though.

And so it begins…

Phin wanted to stay 2 more hours but MCmarine and I finally ripped the rod from his crazed fisherman grip and forced him to take us home, I had to be at work in Greenville Monday morning.

It was a slow day, but looks like the stamina paid off. If you can’t run with the big dogs then stay on the porch.
