Teleflex Rotrary Stearing Safe-T disconnect

Does anyone have any information on how to remove the cable from the helm using the Safe-T disconnect cotter pin for Teleflex Rotary Steering? Pictures would be great. I tried searching the internet to include Teleflexmarine.com and they don’t advertise how to remove the cable, just to install it. My steering is a little stiff even when the cable is removed from the motor side and I think the internals at the helm need some greasing. I also read about a “friction pin”. If anyone knows where to find that, it would be great. Thanks in advance.

there’s nothing in the helm that’s serviceable, is it a no-feed back type helm? If it is, the stiffness is normal

First disconnect the cable completely from the engine, nut and push rod. Then pull the cotter pin. Now turn the wheel several times (I think clockwise)and the cable will feed out of the head.

I have a NFB helm and it has no stiffness in it at all:wink:

Thanks…I got it out of the helm. You need to pull the cotter pin out and use the pin as a “tool”. There is a hole about an 1/8" in diameter near where the cotter pin is stowed and you push down then turn the steering wheel until it comes out. It is very much like a quick disconnect. Much easier than expected. Thanks again
