Dredging at the Garris Landing public boat launch, Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, will begin on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. Dredging the boat launch at Garris Landing will allow greater ease of access for boaters as it will remove the sediment in the affected waterway. It is anticipated that the launch will re-open on Saturday, Jan. 16.
The Garris Landing parking area will remain open for visitors who wish to access the pier for fishing or wildlife observation and for visitors traveling to Bulls Island on the Coastal Expeditions concession ferry.
Please check the status of the launch before trailering your watercraft to Garris Landing. For additional information and updates see the refuge Facebook page at www.facebook.com/caperomain or contact the refuge Headquarters Office at 843.928.3264.
My first home away from home was an old 2 room slave cabin on the marsh. Rent was really cheap It had a dock over the marsh, but no water except for high tide. We got a set of old bedsprings and a couple of concrete blocks (jetty anchors:smiley:). I was running a crab pot line and every time I went out I’d drag the springs out behind me and drop them with a float. Go work my traps, come back, hook up to it again and drag it back. After a few weeks I had a nice deep water channel all the way to the dock
That was a long time ago. Today I think they would call it agitation dredging and fine you a million dollars and throw you in jail
